John Van Hovel

Project Manager

Meet John Van Hovel. If you haven’t heard of him, you’ve likely still heard him. Whether you’re on the top floor of the office or the bottom floor, front, back, underground, on the roof… near or far, you’ve likely heard him. But wait! His door is shut. Doesn’t matter, John (JVH) has a talent when it comes to talking. He’s on the phone 24/7 managing his projects and making sure all the unforeseen problems that inevitably occur get handled with finesse. How do we know this? We hear about it all day long and wouldn’t have it any other way.

John was born in Quito, Ecuador, and has settled down in Valley Center, California where he lives today. For fun, he enjoys mountain biking and weed-whacking his yard as a professional forced laborer. Many years ago, John was on “The Price is Right” and unfortunately won nothing but a coupon for vertical blinds and 25 boxes of AIM toothpaste.

But wait, there’s so much more about John that everyone should know. You know that trick where you snort a spaghetti noodle through your nose and out your mouth? Yup, he can do that. He learned of this talent in the presence of his family one evening. To him, it’s not that big a deal, you just need to get past the first couple gag reflexes and you’re good.

His favorite candy is a tie between Hot Tamales and Mike and Ikes and his favorite place to be is with family… most of the time. He’s always enjoyed working and helping others. Prior to rejoining the EWB team, he spent eleven years working with junior high kids and families doing exactly that – helping people. In all seriousness, John is a great guy and we’re happy to have him aboard at EWB.
