Carpinteria now has a 40,000-square-foot grocery store with the opening of a new remodeled and enlarged Albertsons on Casitas Pass Road. It’s quite the store for the small town. Albertson’s officials were joined by hundreds for a ribbon-cutting event this morning. Manager Ahmed Jahadhmy said the former store was too small, and did not have the food products many customers needed. This store has more organic food, and specialty items, that some customers would only find in other areas. Jahadhmy said the store has a “wow factor,” and a “Disneyland” look with rows of low-energy use refrigeration and efficient lighting aimed at the products. The store also has a sushi counter, an in-store grill, fresh smoothies and a flower department stocked from local greenhouses. Saturday the grand opening party will include live music, many samples and special pricing on many items.
